Koror Palau – After winning their first game against the Slashers last Sunday, the Spoilers go up against the Hanpa Cardinals looking for a second straight victory.

They opened the game strong leading 20-10 after the first quarter.

Nonetheless, the Cardinals did not go down that easily.

Using their inside game, the Cardinals were able to cut the lead to 25-23 in second quarter but a strong finish before half time by Spoilers restored their lead to 38-33 at half time.

In the second half, the Hanpa Cardinals continued to lean on their strength and that is to pound it on the inside. Because of their lack a legitimate center, Felix Masaganda fouled out with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the Spoilers were already in the penalty. A steal and a layup by Quito  closed the gap to 54-51.

With their foul trouble, the Spoilers seem to be in a tight spot. But again, they were able to make a run towards the end of the 3rd quarter behind Echanova’s dribble drives and RB’s mid-range jumpers and led 60-52, entering the final period.

At the start of the fourth period, the Spoilers continued to control and dictate the tempo of the game but Aries  Echanova fouled out with 6:17 left in the game with the Spoiler’s leading 66-58.

With Echanova out, the Cardinals made a furious comeback behind Johnson Sicat and Raymond Tan’s offensive attack. They were within one 70-69 with 3:47 left and got another break as  RB fouled out on a broken play.

At the 2:12 mark in the final period, the Cardinals had ball possession with a chance to tie or take the lead trailing 73-71.

However, Maata would not let it happen. He made a great defensive gem, stealing the ball on one end, and made a layup on the other to up the Spoilers’ lead 75-71.

Then on the ensuing possession, the Spoilers surprised the Cardinals with some ball pressure, made another critical stop and Marvic’s jumper pushed their lead six points, 77-71.

To make matters worse for the the Cardinals, Sicat and Tan both fouled late in the 4th quarter. At that point, the Cardinals were already done, forcing 3-pointers to try and cut the lead to no avail.

Boy Gopez and Marvic put the finishing touches for the Spoilers making their shots from the foul line as the Cardinals elected to foul on every possession to stop the clock.

With that, the Spoilers were able to pull out another win beating the Cardinals 83-73. They now have a 2-3 record in the ongoing FBL Cup.

The Spoilers will face Surangel’s team this coming Sunday, be sure to watch the game.
